UKaid सीप partners with the GoN for the National Labour & Employment Conference

On 30 June and 1 July, 2019 Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS) organized its 2-day National Labour and Employment Conference in Kathmandu.

The conference aimed to create a national platform to bring government, development partners and experts together to discuss and share knowledge across key labour market themes. As a partner for the conference, UKaid-funded Skills for Employment Programme (सीप), showcased market-driven approaches to skilling and employment on both days.

Right Honorable Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli, was the Chief Guest for the inaugural session of the conference where more than 400 individuals from the government, private sector, development agencies ad media had participated. Right Honourable Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, during his inaugural speech, indicated that the government is working towards developing useful skills for livelihood promotion, employment and self-employment in the country. He reiterated that in order to achieve this, the government is fully committed to reform policies and structures in order to meet the present and future human resource demand. He also visited UKaid सीप booth where he personally discussed market-based approaches to skilling with the UKaid सीप team and suggested partnering with the private sector (employers) to make this happen – particularly on the opportunity to create jobs in Nepal - in agriculture, ICT, construction, tourism & manufacturing.

A broader discussion with the private sector was scheduled for the second day of the conference where UKaid सीप’s Team Leader Mr. Baljit Vohra was a panelist under the topic “Job Skilling in Nepal”.
